The Avian Interpretive Sign project is now complete. The signs were installed at Lake Sacajawea Park in Longview on 12/7/09 and are already being recognized as a beautiful enhancement to the park.
Our Willapa Hills Audubon Society mission statement “to promote environmental understanding and enjoyment of nature”, is served well through this project. The signs have a 20 year "life-span" and provide the citizens of our area, as well as tourists, enriching and affordable recreation as well as a focus on education. They showcase the work of two local artists, Debby Neely and Lorena Birk, and encourage observation, listening and learning about the birds of Lake Sacajawea and are a wonderful addition to this site on The Great Washington State Birding Trail. These are a lovely tribute to Ruth Deery and her tireless work in education and conservation. Many thanks to our partners the City of Longview and all of you whose contributions have made this project possible.
